Junk Cars For Sale

When most people go searching for a junk car, the most obvious place to look is the junk yard or salvage yard. These locations normally have hundreds, if not thousands, of junk cars for sale. Obviously their name implies that they won’t be in very good condition but if you need a car in good condition you would be looking for a junk or salvaged car in the first place. Although junk yards, salvage yards and scrap yards are the most obvious places to look for junk cars, that doesn’t necessarily mean these locations should be the first place you check for a particular car you want. In all actuality junk yards and salvaged yards should be the last place you go when looking for a junk car for a variety of reasons.

First and foremost junk cars sold at junk yards and salvage yards ten to be much more expensive than cars sold privately or at other venues. Junk yards and salvage yards typically charge more for their used cars because they can. They know that they are the largest source of junk cars in the area and that many of their customers don’t have another option. While this may seem like shady business practice, and in a way it is, on the whole it is basically a good business decision. When you have what amount to a monopoly on the market you can basically charge whatever you want for the products you sell. Another reason junk yards sell their junk cars at such high prices is because they can potentially make more money off of the car by keeping it and selling it for parts than they could selling it as whole. If someone want to buy a junk car that may only be worth $300 but has $1000 worth of parts that people may pay for your price for that car is going to b much closer to $1000 than it is $300.

Junk yards should also be the last place you look for a junk car because the junk cars they carry are generally in much worse condition than junk cars sold from by private sellers. For a junk car to even make it into the junkyard it normally has to be damaged beyond repair while many junk cars sold by private sellers, while not running, can be repaired if desired. The junk cars for sale in junk yards and salvage yards have also already been picked for parts so you don’t know what you are getting in terms of wiring and parts. In contrast most junk cars sold by private sellers are completely intact and have not been picked for parts. Obviously if you are going to buy a junk car in order to use it for spare parts you want to stay away from junk yards which have a subprime product based on your needs and wants. Junk yards and salvaged yards are also required to tax you on your purchase which will add even more cost to an already overpriced car.
